Coronavirus Update: NSW Border Closure

Tuesday 7 July 2020

Good afternoon all,

Please find the following information providing staff with an update on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Temporary NSW Border Closure
As you are aware, the interim NSW / Victoria border closure will take effect from midnight tonight (7 July).

Permits to travel to and from Victoria / NSW will be available via Services NSW later today, accessible via this link https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-covid-19-nsw-border-declaration-permit.

It is anticipated that there will be significant delays for eligible staff to obtain the permits, so in the meantime when travelling from Victoria to NSW (or vice versa) you are advised to:

  • Carry proof of residence e.g. drivers licence.
  • Obtain and carry the letter confirming  your status as an Essential Employee and employed by Mercy Connect. Please contact Rosie Busuttil (rosie.busuttil@mercyconnect.org.au) for a copy of the letter.
  • Carry your staff ID with you.
  • Show authorities the Mercy Connect Staff APP, your payslip or carelink roster as alternative proof of employment.

Please also note that these forms of ID will not replace your need to obtain an appropriate Permit to travel interstate from Services NSW.

As delays are expected to impact travel time, please factor this into your trip to ensure that you get to work on time.

While all these steps are likely to be an inconvenience in the interim, we all have a responsibility to ensure that we do everything possible to keep ourselves and each other safe from the spread of infection.

Protect yourself from viruses:

  • Clean your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitiser.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
