Coronavirus Update: Important information about PPE

Friday 31 July 2020

Good afternoon all,

Please find the following information providing staff with an update on the COVID-19 pandemic.

PPE Mask Use

Effective immediately Mercy Connect have implemented the wearing of face mask as compulsory at all times when providing services in accommodation service, outreach and day program.

Mercy Connect have always gone above and beyond Commonwealth and State Recommendations for the health and wellbeing of both staff and participants. We have taken this approach in light the latest recommendation from NSW Health updates and with the tightening restriction coming in place for Victoria as of Midnight Sunday 2 August 2020.

We are also aware that you may be making or being supplied with cloth made mask, though this gesture is made with heart felt consideration they are not acceptable to be used whilst on duty with our participants with Mercy Connect. This is due to the stringent requirements of washing cloth mask to ensure their hygiene. It is mandatory to use the Mercy Connect supplied surgical face mask. If you stocks are low you can be re-stocked by contact Mercy Connect Reception (P: 02 6043 3500) Or Jeanie Keeton (02 6061 0417).

Additionally, we have been made aware that some Medical Surgeries/Practitioners and Allied Health Services are requesting anyone who attends a face-to-face appointment, to wear face mask. Although this is currently  not a mandatory requirement set by NSW Health, these services are developing their own additional COVID19 Safety Plan similar to what we are implementing.

Please ensure that you, along with our participants, follow these directions out of respect for the other health services and staff. If you know that a participant is unable to wear a mask please ensure you advise the Medical Surgery and/ Allied health services of  this and the reasons why.

Staff are reminded to regularly check updated governmental COVID-19 guidelines and health advice from Service NSW https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/,NSW Government https://www.nsw.gov.au and Victorian Government https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus; particularly on any changes to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Importantly, staff who do travel to a known COVID-19 ‘hot spot’, or an area with increasing COVID-19 cases, will be required to seek COVID-19 testing and will not be able to work until a negative test result has been confirmed. This conservative approach is being taken for the health the safety and wellbeing of all Mercy Connect’s participants and staff.

Together we grow.
